Even if you are not able to give a lot or even anything at all, to show compassion by saying a kind word, giving a hug, or even if it's a bologna sandwhich, it helps. We (my husband, son and I) are considered working poor, but we still find ways to help because we at least have a roof over our heads, food in our bellies and a bed to lie in. So we do what we can. We buy a five dollar sandwich for a person going hungry, we visit house bound elderly neighbors, we open a door to a mother with children, ECT. To give of yourself to show compassion for your fellow human beings does not always cost money, but it sure makes life just a little easier for others worse off than ourselves.

Kids are naturally caring for others and it's the bad examples we adults set that ruin it for them and eventually most turn into A typical hooray for me person… Good for you kid! you more than made his day!.

he needs long underwear, waterproof boots, wool socks and some weather proof outer wear. He needs a dentist's care and someplace warm to sleep. He needs so much more than any little girl and her middle class well intended parents can ever understand. He needs a warm shower and a bus pass. He needs a phone so he can apply for a job and actually hear back.
