God, i remember the video when I first saw it, I'm pretty sure its still on youtube somehwere.
This was a seriously bad situation. I honestly thought the Police Officer was going to get killed because they were trying to go for his weapon, then the good samaritans just came in and went full ham on the two that were trying to take down the officer. It's a hell of a video.
Why am I seeing this now? And not yknow, 3 years ago when it happened? I live in Buchanan and didn't hear a peep about this!
92mph is considered reckless that's pathetic
These liberal networks would never air a story like this today.
She called him officer he’s a state trooper not an officer get it right
Republicans stop, while the liberals in their prius pass by with their phones out.
Should've just shot those oxygen thieves
I think all officers should have a partner while on the job..
can not imagine the troopers wife hearing the story . sad
Mr.Burham…..it's people like you that are amazing Bless You!
Alot of psychos in the USA
My respect to the officer that gets down like a man and not killing the idiot on the spot.. Thank the good Samaritans as well
I don't understand why someone wouldn't help in a situation like this. Golden rule people!
You are a true hero sir! God bless!
not many good people like this are around to do the right thing even if it cost them there life
What a heartwarming story. Nice to hear a positive outcome every once in awile! And this cop seems like a really nice guy in general. I would've stopped and helped him as well.
Look up the video! It's crazy! If the 2 good Samaritans didn't stop, that officer surely would've been in real trouble! The car that dropped off the 2nd bad guy kept "circling" around…who knows how many more bad guys were in that car…hope they got the driver on something too!
recently moved to MICHIGAN and this does not surprise me at all ,the cops seem part of the community NOT our enemy. So yes,If I see you attacking a MICHIGAN LEO
especially 2 on 1expect Mr.9mm to make an appearance.WE ARE DELTA!Awesome job ! Thank you for protecting those that protect us !
Dang, green light to beat s couple of pos to within an inch of their lives.
Jerry Burnham!
Both of those young 'men' deserved to get their asses beat!
Hats off to all State Troopers.I support you the most!!
Thanks to Jerry's wife who asked him to get out and help officer in trouble :).
Thank you Jerry!
The man above put that Spirit of no fear on Jerry Burnham and made him an angel to that Trooper who needed him because it was about to become a bad situation for that officer hats off to Mr Jerry and may he receive his blessings for this act of bravery and courage
What really burns me is the other drivers who slowed down to look, but did not stop; PATHETIC PEOPLE! Jerry and the other good samaritan should get commendations – wonderful actions on their part!
Barber found guilty on all counts in attack on Michigan State Police trooper:
Kasey Chronis | Posted: Fri 6:09 PM, May 19, 2017
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) – After a four hour deliberation, the jury has found 21-year-old Michael Barber guilty of all six counts, stemming from the February attack of a Michigan state trooper.
Barber now faces several years in prison.
The jury found Barber guilty on the following six counts:
-Assault by Strangulation
-Flee and Elude a Police officer
-Assault / Resist / Obstruct a Police Officer with Injury
-Attempt to Disarm a Police Officer of a Firearm
-Receiving and Concealing a stolen motorcycle
-Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm
It was an emotional trial for the officer at the center of the attack. On February 20, Trooper Guild was assigned to traffic patrol, but a typical day on the job took a dramatic turn.
“I tried to stay away from looking at that video because every time I looked at that video, it affected me to a deeper and deeper degree,” said Trooper Garry Guild, the officer who was attacked.
Guild is referring to dashcam video that caught the incident on camera. It is something NewsCenter 16 first requested through the Freedom of Information Act.
Guild had attempted to stop Michael Barber speeding on a stolen motorcycle, but Barber refused to surrender.
"My brain was in shock and I could hear myself struggling to breathe," said Guild.
That's because Barber's brother, Travis Wise ran up from behind and put Trooper Guild in a chokehold.
"All of the sudden, I feel a second person… someone reaching for my gun," said Guild.
But the gun had fallen at some point during the struggle.
"If that wasn't dislodged, we wouldn't be here for "Assault with Intent to Murder. We would be here for Murder," said Jerry Vigansky, Asst. Prosecuting Attorney, Berrien County.
“Things could have gone a different way,” said Guild.
Keith Pepple and Jerry Burnham who saw the attack unfold ran to Guild's aid.
“I’m thinking, ‘boy I hope this trooper knows I’m coming in to help.’ Because he’s being attacked by two people and I’m thinking if he’s got a weapon he’s probably going to pull it out and defend himself. And something told me don't worry about it, get in there,” said Keith Pepple, Good Samaritan who ran to Trooper Guild’s aid during the attack.
“Oh you could tell that somebody's arm was around him. Officer Guild was leaning backwards at that point,” said Jerry Burnham, Good Samaritan who ran to Trooper Guild’s aid during the attack.
While Barber was charged with Attempted Murder, the jury found him guilty of the lesser charge, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm.
“Murder requires a specific intent to kill. I never for a minute thought he would be found guilty of that offense. In my opinion, that was a victory for us,” said Scott Sanford, Barber’s attorney.
While Guild says he feared for his life that day, he says he is content with the verdict and happy to be alive.
“This is one example where I was a victim of a crime and other citizens other than myself, they stepped up to help me where I’m usually the one stepping in, or police officers are usually the ones stepping in to help other citizens,” said Guild.
Sanford says Barber faces a maximum of 15 years for that last count, Attempt to Commit Great Bodily Harm. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for June.
Barber's mother and girlfriend, who were in court watching the entire trial, did not want to speak on camera or comment on the verdict.

Too bad the Trooper wasn't able to shoot those POS thugs.

I like the Michigan state troopers, Anytime I had a encounter with them. They've been much more respectful than the local police.
