Jake Sully and Ney’tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together. However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), directed by James Cameron, is a visually ambitious film that pushes modern visual effects to a completely new level. The film’s visual effects were primarily created by Wētā FX, the studio that also worked on the first Avatar.
Wētā FX delivered more than 3,200 visual effects shots, handling almost every major visual element seen on screen. The studio created the digital Na’vi characters with extremely detailed facial animation and realistic body movement, making their performances feel natural and emotional. A huge part of the film takes place underwater, and for this, Wētā FX developed new technology to capture actor performances while they were actually submerged in water.
The underwater world of Pandora, including oceans, reefs, and sea creatures, was largely built in CGI. Special attention was given to water behavior, such as bubbles, currents, and light passing through water, to maintain realism in every shot. Wētā FX also handled complex lighting and rendering for underwater scenes, ensuring that characters remained clearly visible while still looking natural.
Large-scale action sequences involving water, creatures, and destruction were another major part of the studio’s work. To achieve this level of realism, Wētā FX developed new tools and workflows for performance capture, simulation, and rendering, setting a new benchmark for underwater filmmaking.

GILAAAA
Infinite portfolio
I really can't wait to learn vfx cgi
I love to See the real making of, instead of all that fake AI making of.
Whoever was in charge of choreographing the ears is my favourite person in the world
Awesome ❤
So real
So how would u track water tho
James Cameron is going to take a break from Avatar after Fire and Ash and will soon shift his attention to a new Terminator movie. While we've known Cameron has been writing a script for Terminator 7, the last we heard he had encountered writer's block when trying to envision a future that won't become reality by the time the film releases. More recently however, it sounds like he found his niche and will actively begin work on a new Terminator film sooner rather than later. However, fans should not get their hopes up seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role again, nor should they anticipate any cameos or callbacks. From the sounds of it, James Cameron is starting with a blank slate, a new Terminator story devoid of tethers to previous installments
This is so frigin cool
Working in visual effects since 1980 myself, co-developed mental ray, co-founded two VFX houses. At times it feels like I'm in a spiritual crisis. All this for rather forgettable works like this, but I keep telling myself whatever pays the bills and whatever keeps my artists working. Maybe it is for the better my sons take over the studio next year and I'll focus on my research papers. Not really feeling the magic anymore that got me into this industry.
Its just so well made. Cameron and team just did not let up. They forced this world into existence atp. The materials aren't just visually tangible they feel physically AND chemically tangible as well. Such an incredible achievement.
This didn't break down anything. It showed a single pre-finished vfx pass. Thumbs down
And yet, Hollywood says they don't need CGI.
What’s up with this videos aspect ratio man?
Those aliens look like demons. Don't be fooled. The devil is behind those movies.
But were the Caustics real or no?
what shocks me most is the water and rain physics on the skin
the way the rain realisticly drips down is amazing
in the future i hope we see a snow biome instead of just rain and fire
It's no wonder these films cost 400 million plus to make. Sheesh. The amount of work for each individual shot is bonkers
Fantastic!)
And the Oscar goes too…
The aspect ratio of this video looks incredible on my 10 pro fold…
Probably the best work by human beings pre-generative AI
the optimization would be crazy in these movies
they must have to think and invent stuff to optimize maximum amount of scenes
And when will you create graphics for the benefit of society and not for the work of the bourgeoisie and financial capital to atomize people?
I remember when way fo water was released and a youtube channel of professional vfx artists were debating if whether the water they were seeing was real or cgi from one of the scenes.
How many millions hours work in totally. No body imagine how much hard work is it.
경이롭다
Incredible
It’s hard to imagine how much work went into this movie. Absolutely incredible – massive respect to the entire team who worked on the Avatar series.
